Proverbs Chapter
25
1 These
are also
proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah
copied out.
1 Kings 4:32 And he spake
three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and
five.
2
It is the glory
of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings
is to search
out a matter.
Romans 11:33 O the depth of
the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how
unsearchable are
his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
Job 29:16 I was
a father to the poor: and the cause
which I knew
not I searched out.
3 The heaven for height,
and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings
is
unsearchable.
4 Take away the dross
from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the
finer.
2 Tim 2:21 If a man therefore
purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour,
sanctified, and meet for the master's use,
and prepared
unto every good work.
5 Take away the wicked
from before
the king, and his throne shall be established in
righteousness.
Prov
20:8 A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment
scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
16:21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the
sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
6 Put not forth thyself
in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of
great men:
7 For better
it is that it
be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest
be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes
have seen.
Luke 14:10
But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest
room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto
thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in
the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.
8 Go not forth hastily
to strive, lest thou
know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy
neighbour hath put thee to shame.
Matt 5:25
Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the
way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to
the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and
thou be cast into prison.
9 Debate thy cause with
thy neighbour himself;
and discover not a secret to another:
Matt 5:25
Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the
way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to
the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and
thou be cast into prison.
10 Lest he that heareth
it put thee
to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.
11 A word fitly spoken
is like
apples of gold in pictures of silver.
Prov 15:23 A man hath joy by
the answer of his mouth: and a word
spoken in due
season, how good is it!
12
As an earring
of gold, and an ornament of fine gold,
so is a wise
reprover upon an obedient ear.
13 As the cold of snow
in the time of harvest,
so is a
faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth
the soul of his masters.
Prov 13:17 A wicked messenger
falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador
is health.
14 Whoso boasteth
himself of a false gift
is like clouds
and wind without rain.
Prov 20:6 Most men will
proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who
can find?
Jude 12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when
they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds
they are
without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit
withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the
roots;
15 By long forbearing is
a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
Prov 15:1 A soft answer turneth
away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
16 Hast thou found
honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be
filled therewith, and vomit it.
Prov 25:27
It is not good
to eat much honey: so
for men to search their own glory
is not glory.
17 Withdraw thy foot
from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and
so hate
thee.
18 A man that beareth
false witness against his neighbour
is a maul, and
a sword, and a sharp arrow.
Psalm 57:4 My soul
is among lions:
and I lie
even among
them that are set on fire,
even the sons
of men, whose teeth are
spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.
19 Confidence in an
unfaithful man in time of trouble
is like a
broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
20
As he that
taketh away a garment in cold weather,
and as vinegar
upon nitre, so is
he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
Daniel 6:18 Then the king went
to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were
instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went
from him.
21 If thine enemy be
hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give
him water to drink:
Matt 5:44
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse
you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which
despitefully use you, and persecute you;
22 For thou shalt heap
coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.
2 Sam 16:12 It may be that the
LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will
requite me good for his cursing this day.
23 The north wind
driveth away rain: so
doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
Job 37:22 Fair weather cometh
out of the north: with God
is terrible
majesty.
Psalm 101:5 Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will
I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will
not I suffer.
24
It is better to
dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling
woman and in a wide house.
Prov 19:13 Keep back thy
servant also from presumptuous
sins; let them
not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I
shall be innocent from the great transgression.
25
As cold waters
to a thirsty soul, so
is good news from a far country.
26 A righteous man
falling down before the wicked
is as a
troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
27
It is not good
to eat much honey: so
for men to search their own glory
is not glory.
Prov 25:16 Hast thou found
honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be
filled therewith, and vomit it.
Prov 27:2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own
mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
28 He that
hath no rule
over his own spirit is
like a city
that is broken
down, and
without walls.
Prov 16:32 He that is
slow to anger is
better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than
he that taketh a city.
