Proverbs
Chapter 6
1 My son, if thou be
surety for thy friend,
if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,
Prov 11:15 He that is surety
for a stranger shall smart
for it: and he
that hateth suretiship is sure.
2 Thou art snared with
the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy
mouth.
3 Do this now, my son,
and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy
friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.
4 Give not sleep to
thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
Psalm 132:4 I will not give
sleep to mine eyes, or
slumber to mine eyelids,
5 Deliver thyself as a
roe from the hand of
the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the
fowler.
6 Go to the ant, thou
sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
Job 12:7 But ask now the
beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air,
and they shall tell thee:
7 Which having no guide,
overseer, or ruler,
8 Provideth her meat in
the summer, and
gathereth her food in the harvest.
9 How long wilt thou
sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
Prov 24:33
Yet a little
sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to
sleep:
10
Yet a little
sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to
sleep:
11 So shall thy poverty
come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
Prov 10:4 He becometh poor
that dealeth with
a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
12 A naughty person, a
wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
13 He winketh with his
eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his
fingers;
Job 15:12 Why doth thine heart
carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,
Proverbs 10:10 He that winketh
with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.
14 Frowardness
is in his
heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.
Mic 2:1 Woe to them that
devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the
morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the
power of their hand.
Prov 6:19 A false witness
that speaketh
lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
15 Therefore shall his
calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without
remedy.
Jer 19:11 And shalt say unto
them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break
this people and this city, as
one breaketh a
potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they
shall bury them
in Tophet, till there
be no place to bury.
2 Chron 36:16 But they mocked the messengers of God, and
despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the
wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till
there was no
remedy.
16 These six
things doth the
LORD hate: yea, seven
are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying
tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
Psalms 101:5 Whoso privily
slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath
an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.
Psalms 120:2-3
2 Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips,
and from a
deceitful tongue.
3 What shall be given unto
thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?
Isaiah 1:15 And when ye spread forth your hands, I will
hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I
will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
18 An heart that
deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running
to mischief,
Gen 6:5 And GOD saw that the
wickedness of man was
great in the earth, and
that every
imagination of the thoughts of his heart
was only evil
continually.
Isaiah 59:7 Their feet run to
evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their
thoughts are
thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction
are in their
paths.
19 A false witness
that speaketh
lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Psalms 27:12 Deliver me not
over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are
risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
Prov 6:14 Frowardness
is in his heart, he deviseth mischief
continually; he soweth discord.
20 My son, keep thy
father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
Eph 6:1 Children, obey your
parents in the Lord: for this is right.
21 Bind them continually
upon thine heart, and
tie them about thy neck.
Prov 3:3 Let not mercy and
truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them
upon the table of thine heart:
22 When thou goest, it
shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and
when thou
awakest, it shall talk with thee.
23 For the commandment
is a lamp;
and the law is
light; and reproofs of instruction
are the way of
life:
Prov
3:23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot
shall not stumble.
2:11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall
keep thee:
24 To keep thee from the
evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange
woman.
Prov 2:16 To deliver thee from
the strange woman, even
from the stranger which
flattereth with her words;
25 Lust not after her
beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her
eyelids.
Matthew 5:28
But I say unto you, That whosoever
looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery
with her already in his heart.
26 For by means of a
whorish woman a man is
brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress
will hunt for the precious life.
Prov 29:3 Whoso loveth wisdom
rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with
harlots spendeth his
substance.
Gen 39:14 That she called unto the men of her house, and
spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew
unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I
cried with a loud voice:
Ezek 13:18 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the
women that sew
pillows to all armholes, and make kerchiefs upon the head of
every stature to hunt souls! Will ye hunt the souls of my
people, and will ye save the souls alive
that come unto
you?
27 Can a man take fire
in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
28 Can one go upon hot
coals, and his feet not be burned?
29 So he that goeth in
to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be
innocent.
30
Men do not
despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is
hungry;
31 But
if he be found,
he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance
of his house.
Exodus 22:1 If a man shall
steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall
restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.
32
But whoso
committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he
that doeth
it destroyeth his own soul.
Prov 7:7 And beheld among the
simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void
of understanding,
33 A wound and dishonour
shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
34 For jealousy
is the rage of
a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35 He will not regard
any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest
many gifts.
