Proverbs
Chapter 18
1 Through desire a man,
having separated himself, seeketh
and
intermeddleth with all wisdom.
2 A fool hath no delight
in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
3 When the wicked
cometh, then
cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
4 The words of a man's
mouth are as
deep waters, and
the wellspring of wisdom
as a flowing
brook.
Proverbs 10:11 The mouth of a
righteous man is
a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the
wicked.
James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure,
then peaceable, gentle,
and easy to be
intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without
partiality, and without hypocrisy.
5
It is not good
to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the
righteous in judgment.
Lev 19:15 Ye shall do no
unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the
person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty:
but in
righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.
6 A fool's lips enter
into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
7 A fool's mouth
is his
destruction, and his lips
are the snare
of his soul.
Proverbs 10:14 Wise
men lay up
knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish
is near
destruction.
8 The words of a
talebearer are
as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the
belly.
Proverbs 12:18 There is that
speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of
the wise is
health.
9 He also that is
slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great
waster.
Proverbs 28:24 Whoso robbeth
his father or his mother, and saith,
It is no
transgression; the same
is the
companion of a destroyer.
10 The name of the LORD
is a strong
tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
2 Sam 22:3 The God of my rock;
in him will I trust: he
is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my
high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from
violence.
11 The rich man's wealth
is his
strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.
Proverbs 10:15 The rich man's
wealth is
his strong city: the destruction of the poor
is their
poverty.
12 Before destruction
the heart of man is haughty, and before honour
is humility.
Proverbs 16:18 Pride
goeth before
destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
13 He that answereth a
matter before he heareth
it, it
is folly and
shame unto him.
John 7:51 Doth our law judge
any man,
before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
14 The spirit of a man
will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can
bear?
15 The heart of the
prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh
knowledge.
16 A man's gift maketh
room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
Gen 32:20 And say ye moreover,
Behold, thy servant Jacob
is behind us.
For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth
before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure
he will accept of me.
1 Sam 25:27 And now this blessing which thine handmaid hath
brought unto my lord, let it even be given unto the young
men that follow my lord.
17
He that is
first in his own cause
seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and
searcheth him.
18 The lot causeth
contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
19 A brother offended
is harder to be won
than a strong city: and
their
contentions are
like the bars of a castle.
20 A man's belly shall
be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth;
and with the
increase of his lips shall he be filled.
Proverbs 12:14 A man shall be
satisfied with good by the fruit of
his mouth: and
the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.
21 Death and life
are in the
power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the
fruit thereof.
Matt 12:37
For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words
thou shalt be condemned.
22
Whoso findeth a
wife findeth a good
thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a
virtuous woman? for her price
is far above
rubies.
23 The poor useth
intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
James 2:3 And ye have respect
to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit
thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou
there, or sit here under my footstool:
24 A man
that hath
friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend
that
sticketh closer than a brother.
Proverbs 17:17 A friend loveth
at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
