Proverbs Chapter One
1 The proverbs of
Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
1 Kings 4:32 And he spake
three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and
five.
Eccl 12:9 And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he
still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed,
and sought out, and
set in order many proverbs.
2 To know wisdom and
instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
3 To receive the
instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
4 To give subtilty to
the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
5 A wise
man will hear,
and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall
attain unto wise counsels:
Prov 9:9 Give
instruction to
a wise man,
and he will be yet wiser: teach a just
man, and he
will increase in learning.
6 To understand a
proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and
their dark sayings.
Psalms 78:2 I will open my
mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
7 The fear of the LORD
is the
beginning of knowledge:
but fools
despise wisdom and instruction.
Job 28:28 And unto man he said,
Behold, the fear of the Lord, that
is wisdom; and
to depart from evil is
understanding.
Psalms 111:10 The fear of the LORD
is the
beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that
do his commandments:
his praise endureth for ever.
Eccl 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:
Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this
is the whole
duty of
man.
8 My son, hear the
instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy
mother:
Proverbs 4:1 Hear, ye
children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know
understanding.
9 For they
shall be an
ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
10 My son, if sinners
entice thee, consent thou not.
Gen 39:7 And it came to pass
after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes
upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.
11 If they say, Come
with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for
the innocent without cause:
Jer 5:26 For among my people
are found wicked men:
they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap,
they catch men.
12 Let us swallow them
up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into
the pit:
Psalm 28:1 (A
Psalm of David.) Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my
rock; be not silent to me: lest,
if thou be
silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.
13 We shall find all
precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:
14 Cast in thy lot among
us; let us all have one purse:
15 My son, walk not thou
in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
Psalms 1:1 Blessed
is the man that
walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in
the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Psalm 119:101 I have refrained my feet from every evil way,
that I might keep thy word.
16 For their feet run to
evil, and make haste to shed blood.
Isaiah 59:7 Their feet run to
evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their
thoughts are
thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction
are in their
paths.
17 Surely in vain the
net is spread in the sight of any bird.
18 And they lay wait for
their own
blood; they lurk privily for their
own lives.
19 So
are the ways of
every one that is greedy of gain;
which taketh
away the life of the owners thereof.
1 Tim 6:10 For the love of
money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted
after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced
themselves through with many sorrows.
20 Wisdom crieth
without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:
John 7:37 In the last day,
that great day
of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying,
If any man thirst, let him come unto me,
and drink.
21 She crieth in the
chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in
the city she uttereth her words,
saying,
22 How long, ye simple
ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in
their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
23 Turn you at my
reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will
make known my words unto you.
Joel 2:28 And it shall come to
pass afterward, that
I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and
your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream
dreams, your young men shall see visions:
24 Because I have
called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no
man regarded;
Isaiah 66:4 I also will choose
their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them;
because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they
did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose
that in
which I delighted not.
Jer 7:13 And now, because ye have done all these works,
saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and
speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye
answered not;
Zech 7:11 But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the
shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.
25 But ye have set at
nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
Psalms 107:11 Because they
rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel
of the most High:
Luke 7:30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the
counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of
him.
26 I also will laugh at
your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
Psalms 2:4 He that sitteth in
the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in
derision.
27 When your fear cometh
as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind;
when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
Prov 10:24 The fear of the
wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the
righteous shall be granted.
28 Then shall they call
upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early,
but they shall not find me:
Job 27:9 Will God hear his cry
when trouble cometh upon him?
Isaiah 1:15 And when ye spread forth your hands, I will
hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I
will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
Jer 14:12 When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and
when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not
accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by
the famine, and by the pestilence.
Ezek 8:18 Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye
shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they
cry in mine ears with a loud voice,
yet will I not
hear them.
Mic 3:4 Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but he will not
hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that
time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.
Zech 7:13 Therefore it is come to pass,
that as he
cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would
not hear, saith the LORD of hosts:
James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss,
that ye may consume it
upon your lusts.
29 For that they hated
knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
Job 21:14 Therefore they say
unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of
thy ways.
Psalm 119:173 Let thine hand help me; for I have chosen thy
precepts.
30 They would none of my
counsel: they despised all my reproof.
Psalm 81:11 But my people
would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.
31 Therefore shall they
eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their
own devices.
Job 4:8 The old lion perisheth
for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered
abroad.
Isaiah 3:11 Woe unto the wicked!
it shall be ill
with him:
for the reward of his hands shall be given him.
Jer 6:19 Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this
people, even
the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened
unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.
32 For the turning away
of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools
shall destroy them.
33 But whoso hearkeneth
unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of
evil.
Psalms
25:12 What man is
he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way
that he shall
choose.
112:7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is
fixed, trusting in the LORD.
