Remember
the Sabbath Day,
To Keep it Holy.
Exodus 20:8-11
8
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day [is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God:
[in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor
thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy
cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates:
11 For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the
sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day:
wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Mark
2:27
- And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and
not man for the sabbath:
Exodus 31:13-17
13 Speak thou also unto the
children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall
keep: for it is
a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that
ye may know
that I am
the LORD that doth sanctify you.
14 Ye shall keep the sabbath
therefore; for it is
holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be
put to death: for whosoever doeth
any work
therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
15 Six days may work be
done; but in the seventh
is the sabbath
of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth
any work in the
sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
16 Wherefore the children of
Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath
throughout their generations,
for a perpetual
covenant.
17 It
is a sign
between me and the children of Israel for ever: for
in six days the
LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he
rested, and was refreshed.
Genesis
2:3
- And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it:
because that in it he had rested from all his work which God
created and made.
Luke 23:56
- And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and
rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
Luke 4:16
- And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up:
and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the
sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
Acts 17:2
- And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three
sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
Mark 2:28
- Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Isaiah 58:13
- If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, [from] doing
thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight,
the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not
doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor
speaking [thine own] words:
Luke 6:1-20
1 And it
came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he
went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the
ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing
them in
their hands.
2 And certain of the
Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful
to do on the sabbath days?
3 And Jesus answering them
said, Have ye not read so much as this,
what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which
were with him;
4
How he went into the house of God, and
did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that
were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the
priests alone?
5 And he said unto
them, That the Son of man is Lord also
of the sabbath.
6 And it came to pass
also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue
and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was
withered.
7 And the scribes and
Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath
day; that they might find an accusation against him.
8 But he knew their
thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand,
Rise up, and stand forth in the midst.
And he arose and stood forth.
9 Then said Jesus unto them,
I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful
on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life,
or to destroy it?
10 And looking round
about upon them all, he said unto the man,
Stretch forth thy hand. And he
did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
11 And they were filled with
madness; and communed one with another what they might do to
Jesus.
Lev 26:2 Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my
sanctuary: I am
the LORD.
Duet 5:12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD
thy God hath commanded thee.
