Lamentations Chapter 3

1 I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.

2 He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light.

3 Surely against me is he turned; he turneth his hand against me all the day.

4 My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.

Job 16:8
And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.

Psalm 51:8   Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

Isaiah 38:13   I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.

5 He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.

6 He hath set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old.

Psalm 88:5-6
5  Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand.

6   Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.

7 He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out: he hath made my chain heavy.

Hosea 2:6  Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths.

8 Also when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer.

Job 30:20  I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me not.

9 He hath inclosed my ways with hewn stone, he hath made my paths crooked.

10 He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places.

Isaiah 38:13  I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.

Hosea 5:14  For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him.

11 He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he hath made me desolate.

Hosea 6:1  Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.

12 He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.

Job 7:2  I have sinned; what shall I do unto thee, O thou preserver of men? why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden to myself?

Psm 38:2  For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.

13 He hath caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins.

Job 6:4  For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

14 I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day.

Jer 20:7  O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me.

Job 30:9   And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.

Psm 69:12  They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.

15 He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath made me drunken with wormwood.

Jer 9:15
Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.

16 He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes.

Prov 20:17  Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

17 And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I forgat prosperity.

18 And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD:

Psm 31:22  For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.

19 Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

Jer 9:15  Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.

20 My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

22 It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

Mal 3:6  For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Isaiah 33:2  O LORD, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble.

24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

Psm 16:5  The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.

25 The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

Isaiah 30:18  And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

Mic 7:7  Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

Psm 37:7 Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

Psalm 94:12  Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law;

28 He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him.

Jer 15:17  I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.

29 He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope.

Job 42:6  Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

30 He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.

Isaiah 50:6
I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

Matt 5:39
But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever:

Psm 94:14  For the LORD will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.

32 But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.

33 For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

Ezek 33:11  Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

34 To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,

35 To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High,

36 To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.

Hab 1:13  Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?

37 Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?

Psm 33:9  For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

38 Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?

Job 2:10  But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

Amos 3:6  Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

39 Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

Prov 19:3  The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD.

Mic 7:9  I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.

40 Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.

41 Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.

Psm 86:4  Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

42 We have transgressed and have rebelled: thou hast not pardoned.

Dan 9:35  We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:

43 Thou hast covered with anger, and persecuted us: thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.

44 Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass through.

Lam 3:8  Also when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer.

45 Thou hast made us as the offscouring and refuse in the midst of the people.

1Cor 4:13  Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.

46 All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.

Lam 2:16  All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they hiss and gnash the teeth: they say, We have swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.

47 Fear and a snare is come upon us, desolation and destruction.

Isaiah 24:17  Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.

Isaiah 51:19  These two things are come unto thee; who shall be sorry for thee? desolation, and destruction, and the famine, and the sword: by whom shall I comfort thee?

48 Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

Jer 4:19 My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

49 Mine eye trickleth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,

Psm 77:2  In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted.

50 Till the LORD look down, and behold from heaven.

Isaiah 63:15  Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory: where is thy zeal and thy strength, the sounding of thy bowels and of thy mercies toward me? are they restrained?

51 Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city.

52 Mine enemies chased me sore, like a bird, without cause.

Psm 35:7  For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.

53 They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and cast a stone upon me.

Jer 37:16  When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

Dan 6:17
And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.

54
Waters flowed over mine head; then I said, I am cut off.

Psm 69:2   I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

Isaiah 38:10  I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years.

55 I called upon thy name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon.

Psm 130:1  (A Song of degrees.) Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD.

56 Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.

Psm 3:4   I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

57
Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not.

Jas 4:8  Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

58 O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

Psm 35:1   (A Psalm of David.) Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.

Jer 51:36  Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry.

Psm 71:23  My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.

59 O LORD, thou hast seen my wrong: judge thou my cause.

Psm 9:4  For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right.

60 Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their imaginations against me.

Jer 11:19   But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

61 Thou hast heard their reproach, O LORD, and all their imaginations against me;

62 The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.

63 Behold their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their musick.

Psm 139:2  Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

64 Render unto them a recompence, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.

Psm 28:4   Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavours: give them after the work of their hands; render to them their desert.

Jer 11:20  But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.

65 Give them sorrow of heart, thy curse unto them.

66 Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of the LORD.

Duet 35:19  Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget it.

Jer 10:11   Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.

Psm 8:3  When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
