Lamentations Chapter 4
1 How is the gold become dim!
how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of
the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.
Lam 2:19 Arise, cry out in the
night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart
like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands
toward him for the life of thy young children, that faint
for hunger in the top of every street.
2 The precious
sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed
as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!
Isaiah 30:14 And he shall
break it as the breaking of the potters' vessel that is
broken in pieces; he shall not spare: so that there shall
not be found in the bursting of it a sherd to take fire from
the hearth, or to take water withal out of the pit.
Jer 19:11 And shalt say unto
them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break
this people and this city, as one breaketh a
potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they
shall bury them in Tophet, till there be
no place to bury.
3 Even the sea
monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young
ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel,
like the ostriches in the wilderness.
Job 39:14 Which leaveth her eggs
in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
4 The tongue of
the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for
thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man
breaketh it unto them.
Psm 22:15 My strength is dried
up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and
thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
Lam 2:11-12
11 Mine eyes do fail with tears, my bowels are
troubled, my liver is poured upon the earth, for the
destruction of the daughter of my people; because the
children and the sucklings swoon in the streets of the city.
12 They say to
their mothers, Where is corn and wine? when they
swooned as the wounded in the streets of the city, when
their soul was poured out into their mothers' bosom.
5 They that did
feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were
brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.
Job 24:8 They are wet with the
showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a
shelter.
6 For the
punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is
greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was
overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.
Gen 19:25 And he overthrew those
cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the
cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
7 Her Nazarites
were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were
more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was
of sapphire:
8 Their visage
is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets:
their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is
become like a stick.
Lam 5:10 Our
skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine.
Joel 2:6 Before their face the people shall be much
pained: all faces shall gather blackness.
Nah 2:10 She is empty, and void, and waste: and
the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much
pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all
gather blackness.
Psm 102:5 By reason of the voice of my groaning
my bones cleave to my skin.
9 They that
be slain with the sword are better than they that
be slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken
through for want of the fruits of the field.
10 The hands of
the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were
their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
Lam 2:20 Behold, O LORD,
and consider to whom thou hast done this. Shall the women
eat their fruit, and children of a span long? shall
the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the
Lord?
Isaiah 49:15 Can a woman forget her sucking child,
that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb?
yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.
Duet 28:57 And toward her young one that cometh
out from between her feet, and toward her children which she
shall bear: for she shall eat them for want of all
things secretly in the siege and straitness, wherewith
thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates.
11 The LORD hath
accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger,
and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the
foundations thereof.
Jer 7:20 Therefore thus saith
the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured
out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the
trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it
shall burn, and shall not be quenched.
Duet 32:22 For a fire is kindled in mine anger,
and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the
earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of
the mountains.
12 The kings of
the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not
have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have
entered into the gates of Jerusalem.
13 For the sins
of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests,
that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,
Jer 6:13 For from the least of
them even unto the greatest of them every one is
given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the
priest every one dealeth falsely.
Ezek 22:26 Her priests have violated my law, and
have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference
between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed
difference between the unclean and the clean, and have
hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among
them.
Matt 23:31
Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the
children of them which killed the prophets.
14 They have
wandered as blind men in the streets, they
have polluted themselves with blood, so that men could not
touch their garments.
Jer 2:34 Also in thy skirts is
found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have
not found it by secret search, but upon all these.
Num 19:16 And whosoever toucheth one that is slain
with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone
of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days.
15 They cried
unto them, Depart ye; it is unclean; depart,
depart, touch not: when they fled away and wandered, they
said among the heathen, They shall no more sojourn there.
Lev 13:45 And the leper in whom
the plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and his
head bare, and he shall put a covering upon his upper lip,
and shall cry, Unclean, unclean.
16 The anger of
the LORD hath divided them; he will no more regard them:
they respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured
not the elders.
Lam 5:12 Princes are
hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not
honoured.
17 As for us,
our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we
have watched for a nation that could not save
us.
2 Kings 24:7 And the king of
Egypt came not again any more out of his land: for the king
of Babylon had taken from the river of Egypt unto the river
Euphrates all that pertained to the king of Egypt.
Isaiah 20:5 And they shall be afraid and ashamed of
Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory.
Jer 37:7 Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel;
Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto
me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come
forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own
land.
18 They hunt our
steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near,
our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.
2 Kings 25:4 And the city was
broken up, and all the men of war fled by night by
the way of the gate between two walls, which is by
the king's garden: (now the Chaldees were against
the city round about:) and the king went the way
toward the plain.
19 Our
persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they
pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the
wilderness.
20 The breath of
our nostrils, the anointed of the LORD, was taken in their
pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among
the heathen.
21 Rejoice and
be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz;
the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be
drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.
22 The
punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of
Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he
will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will
discover thy sins.
