Chapter 1
1. How doth the city sit
solitary, that was full of people! how is
she become as a widow! she that was great among the
nations, and princess among the provinces, how
is she become tributary!
Isaiah 47:7-8
7. And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so
that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart,
neither didst remember the latter end of it.
8 Therefore hear
now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that
dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am,
and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a
widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:
2 She weepeth sore in
the night, and her tears are on her cheeks: among
all her lovers she hath none to comfort her: all
her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they are
become her enemies.
Jer 13:17 But if ye will not
hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your
pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with
tears, because the LORD'S flock is carried away captive.
3 Judah is gone into
captivity because of affliction, and because of great
servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no
rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.
Lam 2:9 Her gates are sunk into
the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king
and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law
is no more; her prophets also find no vision
from the LORD.
4 The ways of Zion do
mourn, because none come to the solemn feasts: all her gates
are desolate: her priests sigh, her virgins are afflicted,
and she is in bitterness.
5 Her adversaries are
the chief, her enemies prosper; for the LORD hath afflicted
her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children
are gone into captivity before the enemy.
Duet 28:43
The stranger that is
within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou
shalt come down very low.
Jer 30:14 All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they
seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an
enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the
multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were
increased.
Dan 9:7
O
Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto
us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah,
and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel,
that are near, and that are far off,
through all the countries whither thou hast driven them,
because of their trespass that they have trespassed against
thee.
Jer 52:28 This
is the people whom Nebuchadrezzar carried away captive:
in the seventh year three thousand Jews and three and
twenty:
6 And from the daughter of Zion all her beauty is
departed: her princes are become like harts that
find no pasture, and they are gone without strength before
the pursuer.
7 Jerusalem
remembered in the days of her affliction and of her miseries
all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old,
when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none
did help her: the adversaries saw her, and did mock
at her sabbaths.
8 Jerusalem hath
grievously sinned; therefore she is removed: all that
honoured her despise her, because they have seen her
nakedness: yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward.
1Kings 8:46 If they sin against
thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and
thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so
that they carry them away captives unto the land of the
enemy, far or near;
Jer 13:22 And if thou say in thine heart,
Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of
thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy
heels made bare.
Ezek 16:37 Behold, therefore I will gather all thy
lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them
that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast
hated; I will even gather them round about against thee, and
will discover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all
thy nakedness.
Hosea 2:10 And now will I discover her lewdness in the
sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of mine
hand.
9 Her filthiness
is in her skirts; she remembereth not her last end;
therefore she came down wonderfully: she had no comforter. O
LORD, behold my affliction: for the enemy hath magnified
himself.
Duet 32:29 O that they
were wise, that they understood this, that
they would consider their latter end!
Isaiah 47:7 And thou saidst, I shall be a lady
for ever: so that thou didst not lay these
things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter
end of it.
Lam 1:2,17,21
2. She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are
on her cheeks: among all her lovers she hath none to comfort
her: all her friends have dealt treacherously with
her, they are become her enemies.
17. Zion spreadeth forth her hands, and there is
none to comfort her: the LORD hath commanded concerning
Jacob, that his adversaries should be
round about him: Jerusalem is as a menstruous woman among
them.
21. They have heard that I sigh: there is none to
comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they
are glad that thou hast done it: thou wilt bring
the day that thou hast called, and they shall be
like unto me.
10 The adversary
hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things: for
she hath seen that the heathen entered into her
sanctuary, whom thou didst command that they should
not enter into thy congregation.
Lam 1:7 Jerusalem
remembered in the days of her affliction and of her miseries
all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old,
when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none
did help her: the adversaries saw her, and did mock
at her sabbaths.
Jer 51:51 We are confounded, because we have
heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: for strangers
are come into the sanctuaries of the LORD'S house.
Duet 23:3 An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter
into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth
generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the
LORD for ever:
Neh 13:1 On that day they read in the book of
Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found
written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come
into the congregation of God for ever;
11 All her people
sigh, they seek bread; they have given their pleasant things
for meat to relieve the soul: see, O LORD, and consider; for
I am become vile.
Jer 38:9 My lord the king,
these men have done evil in all that they have done to
Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon;
and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is:
for there is no more bread in the city.
Jer 52:6 And in the fourth month, in the ninth
day of the month, the famine was sore in the city,
so that there was no bread for the people of the land.
12 Is it
nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if
there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto
me, wherewith the LORD hath afflicted me in the day
of his fierce anger.
Dan 9:12 And he hath
confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against
our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil:
for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been
done upon Jerusalem.
13 From above hath
he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them:
he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back: he
hath made me desolate and faint all the day.
Ezek 12:12
My net also will I spread upon him,
and he shall be taken in my snare: and I will bring him to
Babylon to the land of the Chaldeans; yet shall he
not see it, though he shall die there.
14 The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his
hand: they are wreathed, and come up upon my neck:
he hath made my strength to fall, the Lord hath delivered me
into their hands, from whom I am not able
to rise up.
Duet 28:48 Therefore shalt
thou serve thine enemies which the LORD shall send against
thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in
want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron
upon thy neck, until he have destroyed thee.
15 The Lord hath
trodden under foot all my mighty men in the midst
of me: he hath called an assembly against me to crush my
young men: the Lord hath trodden the virgin, the daughter of
Judah, as in a winepress.
Isaiah 63:3 I have trodden
the winepress alone; and of the people there was
none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and
trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled
upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.
Rev 14:19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the
earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it
into the great winepress of the wrath of God.
16 For these
things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with
water, because the comforter that should relieve my soul is
far from me: my children are desolate, because the enemy
prevailed.
Jer 13:17 But if ye will
not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for
your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down
with tears, because the LORD'S flock is carried away
captive.
Lam 2:18 Their heart cried unto the Lord, O wall
of the daughter of Zion, let tears run down like a river day
and night: give thyself no rest; let not the apple of thine
eye cease.
Lam 1: 2,9
2. She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are
on her cheeks: among all her lovers she hath none to comfort
her: all her friends have dealt treacherously with
her, they are become her enemies.
9. Her filthiness is in her skirts; she
remembereth not her last end; therefore she came down
wonderfully: she had no comforter. O LORD, behold my
affliction: for the enemy hath magnified himself.
17 Zion spreadeth
forth her hands, and there is none to comfort her:
the LORD hath commanded concerning Jacob, that his
adversaries should be round about him: Jerusalem is
as a menstruous woman among them.
Jer 4:31 For I have heard
a voice as of a woman in travail, and the anguish
as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of
the daughter of Zion, that bewaileth herself,
that spreadeth her hands, saying, Woe is
me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.
Lam 2:9 Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath
destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes
are among the Gentiles: the law is no more;
her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.
18 The LORD is
righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment:
hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my
virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.
Neh 9:33 Howbeit thou art
just in all that is brought upon us; for thou hast done
right, but we have done wickedly:
Dan 9:7,14
7. O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto
thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the
men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto
all Israel, that are near, and that are
far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven
them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed
against thee.
14. Therefore hath the LORD watched upon the
evil, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is
righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not
his voice.
1 Sam 12:14 If ye will
fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not
rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both
ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue
following the LORD your God:
19 I called for my
lovers, but they deceived me: my priests and mine
elders gave up the ghost in the city, while they sought
their meat to relieve their souls.
Psm 119 :147
I prevented the
dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy word.
Psm 62:8 He only is my rock and my
salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
Isaiah 51:20 Thy sons have fainted, they lie at
the head of all the streets, as a wild bull in a net: they
are full of the fury of the LORD, the rebuke of thy God.
Nah 3:10 Yet was she carried away, she
went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in
pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for
her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in
chains.
20 Behold, O LORD;
for I am in distress: my bowels are troubled; mine
heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled:
abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as
death.
Lev 26:29 And ye shall eat
the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters
shall ye eat.
Duet 28:53 And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine
own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which
the LORD thy God hath given thee, in the siege, and in the
straitness, wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee:
Jer 19:9 And I will cause them to eat the flesh
of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they
shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and
straitness, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek
their lives, shall straiten them.
Lam 4:10, 13, 16
4. The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the
roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread,
and no man breaketh it unto them.
10. The hands of the pitiful women have sodden
their own children: they were their meat in the destruction
of the daughter of my people.
16. The anger of the LORD hath divided them; he
will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of
the priests, they favoured not the elders.
21 They have heard
that I sigh: there is none to comfort me: all mine
enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou
hast done it: thou wilt bring the day that
thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me.
2 Chr 36:17 Therefore he
brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their
young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary,
and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or
him that stooped for age: he gave them all into his
hand.
Lam 3:43 Thou hast covered with anger, and
persecuted us: thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.
22 Let all their
wickedness come before thee; and do unto them, as thou hast
done unto me for all my transgressions: for my sighs are
many, and my heart is faint.
Psm 31:13 For I have heard
the slander of many: fear was on every side: while
they took counsel together against me, they devised to take
away my life.
Jer 6:25 Go not forth into the field, nor walk
by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear
is on every side.
Jer 46:5 Wherefore have I seen them dismayed
and turned away back? and their mighty ones are beaten
down, and are fled apace, and look not back: for
fear was round about, saith the LORD.
Hos 9:12 Though they bring up their children,
yet will I bereave them, that there shall not
be a man left: yea, woe also to them when I
depart from them!
